Dawn Houska

Elementary Teacher

Born and raised in the Catholic faith, Dawn’s love for the Lord took root early and led her to pursue avenues for sharing the love and promises of God with others, especially children. She began teaching Sunday School while still in high school and, soon after, became a lector and communion minister – ministries she would continue throughout her life. She also served as a Religious Education Coordinator, leader of Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and member of the Pastoral Council.

After earning her degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Language Arts in 1993, Dawn went on to teach in five different Christian schools and one public school over the span of 25 years. When she was invited to join the team at Sacred Journey Academy, Dawn felt strongly that it was brought about as a response to prayer and was delighted at the opportunity to work alongside others in pointing children to their primary Teacher. Her combination of passionate faith and educational experience will enrich the lives of children at SJA both academically and spiritually.

Dawn and her husband, Doug, have been married for 29 years and have four young adult children. In her spare time, Dawn enjoys reading, playing cribbage, thrifting, and spending time with friends and family on the lake

The Houskas attend The Church in the Pines.
