As explained in the Kingdom Education pages, a God-infused culture, not curriculum, is the foundation of our program of Christian education.
Curriculum is necessary, and we are using a package put together by the curriculum experts at Portals Academy. The package includes curricula from three different publishers, summarized below, that both proven and flexible.
Parent intentionality is a key value and goal for Sacred Journey. Through our partnership with Portals Academy, we will be able to send home a weekly summary for each grade / subject area, to facilitate conversations, suggestions, and other parent participation on an ongoing basis.
Full K-12 science curriculum with all major subjects. Emphasizes the wonder of creation from a young earth creationist point of view. Progressively advanced concepts written in a conversational style. Many hands-on activities. Challenging, exciting and rewarding to motivate students.
K -12 Comprehensive curricula with rich and varied teaching tools; many ideas for parent involvement. Emphasis on great stories / books at every level. Great stories but not necessarily great books. Stories are chosen because they are “poignant, heartwarming, powerful, deep and thought-provoking”. More difficult classics are assigned several years later than classical schools, and some of the most difficult are not assigned at all. Stories include discussions about morals and values. Strong citizen-focus in the Kingdom of God, our nation, and the world. Significantly more world history and culture than other curriculum. Very strong in cultivating curiosity and an overall love for reading and learning generally. Will present both sides of a case and expose children to people with different ideas than their own. Developmentally appropriate supplemental activities.
Sonlight’s recommended math program – Comprehensive math – elementary through Calculus. Student-paced mastery. Manipulatives, workbooks, videos. Multi-sensory and easy-to-understand concept presentation for different learning styles: Visual, auditory, kinesthetic. Conceptual understanding approach with logical sequence of skills mastery – students advance as quickly as they are able. Focuses on explaining concepts in an easy to understand way.
